QUALIFYING MEMORANDUM TO PLAYERS

QUALIFYING PORTAL: Follow the link for pairings, live scoring, results and player information. You can also access the qualifying portal by using the Golf Genius app on your mobile device. To access the page, login using the GGID: US4B-PORT22

 

QUALIFYING YARDAGE: 6,880 yards, par-72. Qualifying yardage is subject to change based on weather/course conditions.

 

FORMAT/QUALIFYING PLACES: Stroke play competition conducted over 18 holes. The field of 48 sides will compete for two (2) qualifying places and two (2) alternate positions that will advance to the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship to be played at Kiawah Island Club in Kiawah Island, SC on May 20-24, 2023.

 

Player substitutions will not be permitted under any circumstances.

 

PRACTICE ROUND AVAILABILITY: Players may play one hosted practice round prior to the qualifier. Practice rounds will be available all day on Sunday, September 25 for out of town contestants. Local contestants can practice on a space available basis in the two weeks prior. All contestants must call the golf shop at (360) 895-0130 to make arrangements. All practice round starting times are at the discretion of the McCormick Woods golf shop.

 

STARTING TIMES: Available on the Washington Golf website (wagolf.org) and on the qualifying portal. Online scoring will also be available on the website and portal during qualifying. Starting times will be from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. off the #1 tee.
 

RESULTS/LIVE SCORING: Live scoring will be available during the qualifying after holes #4, #9, #13, and #18.

 

PLAYOFF: In the event of a tie for the last qualifying place or for the order of alternates, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff to determine the final qualifiers and the 1st and 2nd alternates if necessary. All announcements regarding the play-off and start time will be made via text message and email.

 

GOLF SHOP: The golf shop will be open at 6:30 a.m.

 

FOOD SERVICE: Food service will be available at the turn stand café beginning at 7:00 a.m. and will remain open throughout the day. Grab and go snack items will be available as well as beverages. The clubhouse restaurant and bar will not be open.

 

METHODS OF PAYMENT ACCEPTED: All major credit cards and cash.

 

PRACTICE FACILITIES/RANGE BALLS: Range balls will be hosted on the driving range beginning at 7:00 a.m.     

 

CADDIES: Caddies are permitted. Host club caddies are not available. All caddies must wear a caddie bib distributed on the starting tee.  

 

PULL CARTS: Pull carts are permitted and a limited number are available for rent through the golf shop at a cost of $8. Players may provide their own pull cart.


SPECTATOR CARTS: Spectator carts are not permitted unless approved by WA Golf staff at least one week prior to the event.

 

FOOTWEAR: Rule 4.3 is modified in this way: During a round, a player must not wear shoes with traditionally-designed spikes (regardless of composition, i.e., ceramic, plastic, etc.) or spikes, of any design, comprised either entirely or partially of metal (if such metal may come in contact with the course).  Penalty for breach of this Local Rule: See Rule 4.3.

 

DRIVERS/GOLF BALLS: The Local Rule for Conforming Driver Heads is in effect, See Model Local Rule G-1. The Local Rule requiring that all golf balls used be on the List of Conforming Golf Balls is in effect. See Model Local Rule G-3. Please check the USGA website, www.usga.org, for a list of approved golf balls and drivers.

 

The “One Ball Rule” is in effect.  See Model Local Rule G-4. 

 

GROOVES: The players clubs must conform to the grooves and punch mark specifications in The Rules of Golf that are effective from January 1, 2010.  See Model Local Rule G-2. UNDERSTANDING THE GROOVES LOCAL RULE

 

DMDS: The use of distance-measuring devices (DMD) to measure distance only (Rule 4.3) is permitted. UNDERSTANDING THE RULES OF DMDs

 

PACE OF PLAY: It is a condition that players must play without undue delay and in accordance with guidelines established by the Committee. PACE OF PLAY GUIDELINES

 

EVACUATION PLAN: In the event of a discontinuance of play during the qualifier, players must adhere to the evacuation plan distributed by the Committee. The evacuation plan will be emailed to players the day prior to the qualifier and will available on the starting tee.

CODE OF CONDUCT: As set forth in the USGA application, the code of conduct applies to all USGA Qualifying and Championships. 

 

PERSONAL APPEARANCE: Players must be neat in appearance with respect to personal grooming and clothing.

 

AWARD CEREMONY: Silver Medals will be awarded to the lowest scoring side.
